Pokémon's art style has changed over the years and while newer fans of the series might be content with the direction the series has taken, older fans might still be hoping for a return to form.
The release of the switch has also amplified peoples excitement of the idea of true 3D Pokémon games.
A tech savvy fan of Pokémon was able to give older fans of the series a glimpse at what the first 3 original Pokémon Red, Blue, and Green games would look like if made by Nintendo today. The Twitter user with the username of @pokeyugami posted a 17 second video of what looks like the main protagonist from the original games walking through Viridian forest.
The art style is reminiscent of the original works of long time art Pokémon director Ken Sugimori. Even the Pikachu sprite is the original “chubby” model, unlike the more slim version younger people know today.
Even seeing the bug catcher you can’t help to think that this is exactly how the original game would look if the technology allowed it to be released in 1996.
It’s amazing to see this distinct art style in a true 3D environment and it leaves you wondering if Nintendo will ever realize a game with so true to form graphics as this fan made video.
@pokeyugami has other fantastic Pokémon works on his Twitter account and will be linked below along with all sources used to make this video.
